The much-anticipated “Walking Dead” video slot machines have finally arrived in Las Vegas casinos, and our first experience with the new game was a little like an arrow to the forehead, courtesy of Daryl’s trusty crossbow.

The Walking Dead Slot Machine is fashioned after a popular TV horror series. It is put out by a U.S. The Walking Dead Slot is also available internationally now on Fox International Channels. The Walking Dead Slot is a fun filled game featuring some exciting bonus rounds and a chance to win big.

Zombies are also called geeks, slackjaws, rotters, lurkers, shufflers, biters and zoms. At least that’s what we’ve horde.

This blog is a huge fan of AMC’s hit zombie series, so it was great seeing some familiar faces on the video reels.

The “Walking Dead” slot is based upon the first season of the show, so some of the characters in the slot machine (like Lori and Andrea, thankfully) have long since been bitten and have moved on to that big residuals check in the sky.

We give the game our best shot, but never got a single bonus! A guy sitting next to us won several hundred bucks, which certainly livened up the game. For him. You know how it is.

Without bonuses, the game is fairly boring, to be honest. There aren’t really video segments from the show, as have been advertised. The only real video is of zombie extras from Central Casting, and without more participation from the characters we care about, the game ends up being sort of a yawner.

Dead

There aren’t any whiz-band sound effects, and the sound is sort of muffled. The chair movement is limited to occasional jolts when a wheel bonus symbol appears.

Here’s some video of the game and some of the alleged bonuses.

If you’d like to check out the game for yourself, and hopefully you’ll have better luck than we did, it’s in the casinos at Bellagio, The Mirage, The Palms and Arizona Charlie’s (on South Decatur).

Thanks to our friends at VegasChatter.com for letting us know where these things are so we didn’t have to drive up and down The Strip endlessly to find one.

When you cash out, virtual coins shower down, as if you weren’t cashing out for 65 cents. Grrr.

We look forward to hearing what you think. Our enjoyment of a slot machine doesn’t rely upon winning, of course. Although it certainly doesn’t hurt. It just seems as though the manufacturer may have relied too heavily on the “Walking Dead” name recognition, instead of going for something unexpected or immersive or exciting (you know, like a zombie apocalypse), as we’ve come to expect from the latest video slot machines.

Share your thoughts in the comments section so we know whether or not to give the “Walking Dead” slot machine another try. Maybe next time it won’t take such a big bite out of our wallet.

Return of the Dead Slot (Pragmatic Play)

The Book of Ra genre has become a favourite to many developers, and Pragmatic Play has not been left behind. The developer has added their own title, known as Return of the Dead.

The slot offers the usual Boof of Ra features on its Egyptian theme.

This is my unbiased review of Return of the Dead:

Game Set-Up

Return of the Dead uses the common 5x3 reels, with only 10 pay lines.

For the main features, you get to work with the wild/scatter icons, expanding symbols, and some free spins.

Betting and Prizes

The slot allows as little as $0.10 per spin, while the highest amount that you can use per round is $250 per spin.

As a Pragmatic Play title, Return of the Dead will developer fair top payouts, and the highest that the slot can deliver is 5,000x the stake.

The RTP of 96.71% that the developer has announced is within the average of what you get from most modern slots.

Return of the Dead Slot Features

The most notable feature is the Wild/Scatter Book symbol. This feature is capable of paying up to 500x the stake if they fill up the active lines.

In most cases, the wild will work as a replacement for the regular symbols, where it will assist the lower value combos to deliver wins.

To activate the free spins, a minimum of 3 Book symbols must simultaneously appear in view, this will give you up to 10 free spins.

As you advance on the game, a regular symbol will be transformed into a special icon. At this level, it will expand on each reel where it lands.

Once the regular combinations of each free spin have been formed and paid, the special symbols which are in view will expand on their reels.

On a lucky day, the special icon can land and expand on all the five reels, which is very beneficial to the free spins. This way, you can be able to respin the free spins.

Theme & Design

The slot is purely a cloning Book of Ra, and Pragmatic Play did not bother to make even the slightest of changes to the theme which remains Egypt-inspired.

The concept is quite interesting, and the developer has provided a modern-day adventurer, who is on a mission to hunt for treasures in the available pyramids.

In the background are some pyramids as well as a desert.

The slot’s symbols include a Book, Scarab, Pharaoh, the Treasure Hunter (jackpot), Horus, and some Royals.

Conclusion

Return of the Dead is a great choice for players who are already familiar with the Book of Ra series. I find this title way better than most other within this genre.
